Happy Leap Year!!!

This day only comes around every four years and I'm not sure what the traditional way is to celebrate. I mean is there a special drink or toast for today, maybe a special cake or bread?  Well any way I hope you have fun on this special Hump Day and enjoy this eye candy.

Tomorrow one of my favorite players the Captain and Catcher for the Boston Red Sox Jason Varitek will announce his retirement from behind the plate. Most fans felt this was going to be the case when the Red Sox acquired Kelly Shoppach in the off season as the back up for Jason  Saltalamacchia .

I just want to wish TEK and his family the best and thank you for the memories. I hope that the team is able to find a position for him in some aspect. It would be a shame to  loose the knowledge and experience he has of the game, not to mention the pitching staff. There is a lot more that Salty could learn from TEK even if he isn't in a uniform. I'm sure that it will be sometime before we hear what the team has offered him.
I seriously doubt he's has a place in MLB's Hall of Fame but regardless he was a damn good ballplayer.  Here is a breakdown of his career...

A member of the Red Sox from 1997-2011, Varitek hit .256 with 193 home runs and 757 RBIs.
Only Hall of Famers Carl Yastrzemski (23 seasons), Ted Williams (19) and Jim Rice (16) had longer tenures with the Red Sox without playing for another team.
Varitek's retirement announcement will be at JetBlue Park. It will come 12 days after righthander Tim Wakefield retired from the Red Sox, ending his 17-year career.
Like Wakefield, Varitek was offered a minor-league contract and an invitation to spring training. But without any guarantees of making the team, he elected to retire instead.
Varitek, who turns 40 in April, will leave behind a legacy few can match. He hit .256 with 193 home runs and 757 RBIs in his career, was a three-time All-Star and won the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger in 2005. Varitek was ninth in team history with 1,546 games and had the most games for a catcher, .
He also played 63 games in the postseason and was widely respected for his ability to handle pitchers.
Varitek caught a major league record four no-hitters in his career, guiding Hideo Nomo (2001), Derek Lowe (2002), Clay Buchholz (2007) and Jon Lester (2008) into history.
He also is only player to have played in the Little League World Series, the College World Series, the World Series, the Olympics and the World Baseball Classic.
Varitek led his high school, Lake Brantley, to the Florida state title in 1990 and the top spot in the USA Today national poll.
A first-round draft pick by the Seattle Mariners in 1994 after a stellar career at Georgia Tech, Varitek was traded to the Red Sox on July 31, 1997 along with Lowe for reliever Heathcliff Slocumb. It proved to be one of the most lopsided trades in history as Varitek became one of the rocks on which the curse-busting 2004 team.

I personally can't stand award shows I find them to be boring. If the Golden Globes are any predictor then I guess The Descendants has the best chance. I did see Moneyball and it was a pretty good movie, but I don't know if its Oscar worthy.  But if you do tune in enjoy the show.

Feel Lucky Punk

So to the AFA (American Family ASS) and your ASSociates  I say to you... "I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Happy Valentines Day

I hope that everyone is doing something special for the one they love. But, don't get all depressed and self-loathing if you don't have a special person at the moment. We have all been there at one time of our life. I wouldn't go out with the blood hounds searching either. I have found in my life love will find you when you least expect it and when it does it's like getting hit by a wave tat sweeps you off of your feet.

In the mean time I wanted to share some of my favorite love songs. I hope that you find them useful otherwise just enjoy they are some pretty good songs.

Dave Matthews Band - Crush

John Mayer - Your Body Is A Wonderland

Death Cab for Cutie - I will posses your heart

Matt Bomer

Sorry Ladies he's on our team....Matt Bomer is  wearing an expertly tailored suit as con-man Neal Caffrey on USA’s White Collarhas come out. Matt has long kept quiet about his private life.
But the White Collar hunk decided to change all that this weekend. While accepting an award at the Desert AIDS Project's Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards in Palm Springs, Bomer acknowledged that he is gay by giving a special shout-out to his longtime partner, Hollywood publicist Simon Halls, and their three children.

"I'd really especially like to thank my beautiful family: Simon, Kit, Walker, Henry," Bomer said during the gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center. "Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment. God bless you."

The good news is he's gay!

The bad news is he's taken!

Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey

We finally had a real taste of winter this weekend so I found something some what humorous to post about the weather. There is just something about curling up and doing nothing on a cold winter day. I think it makes the hot cocoa yummier and more satisfying. But not to worry by Wednesday the temps will be milder and the Spring bulbs will continue to poke up through the ground at least here in Atlanta.

"Cold" is a relative term. Use the handy list below to overcome
the confusion. Degrees (in Fahrenheit)

Whitney Houston 1963-2012

The Singer, Actress, Producer, Model and Diva Whitney Houston died on Feb. 11, her publicist confirmed. She was 48. She was found dead at a Los Angeles hotel, she was in town for the Grammy Awards which will be held this evening.
Rising to stardom in 1985, Houston's life and career had seen high highs (Grammy wins, big-screen successes, international fame) and low lows (a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown.
Houston's self-titled debut album in 1985 produced her first hits, "You Give Good Love," "Saving All My Love for You," "How Will I Know," and "Greatest Love of All." The singer was discovered by Clive Davis, the head of Arista Records.
Stepping into the world of acting, Houston portrayed a superstar actress/singer who is stalked by an obsessive fan and employs top-notch professional bodyguard Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) in 1992's "The Bodyguard."

I was never really a fan but I did enjoy her work when I heard it. Her performance in "The Bodyguard"  still one of my favorites.  I did always admire her talent and I really thought that it had gone to waste because of her issue with drug addiction. I hope that she went on peacefully and my thoughts go out to her family, friends and fans.

"The biggest devil is me. I'm either my best friend or my worst enemy,"
