Flood photos

A couple of people asked me to post some photos from the flood. So here you are a few photos of the house, inside and out. But, from here on in there will only be photos of the progress that has been made, which makes sense right?
Maybe we'll see some more eye candy tomorrow.

Some Eye Candy

I know I promised some photos of the house those are coming. But I wanted to post some eye candy, something that I have been negligent in doing. This guy is to hot to pass up and I always have had a thing for a guy in a singlet ;-) I'll post the house photos tonight when I get home from work. Plus he's a lot less depressing.

Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm (Randy Boyer Mix) From Tiesto Clublife

I love this remix and thought that you all may also.

Progress Report 1

Things are progressing around the house. All of the wet drywall has been cut out and the insulation has been removed. There have been driers and fans running for 5 days now, so most of the smell has dissipated, but it is still there at least I can smell it. There is supposed to be someone coming to spray anti-fungal and mold stuff on the walls.

Today FEMA was out at the house taking our info to see if we qualify for any kind of aid. It was kind of funny the Rep looked like James May from Top Gear and even had the British accent. Though he looked like James May was a total turn off and I love a cute guy with accent ;-) I guess in a week or so we find out if they help us out with anything. Also today we had an arborist at the house to cut down an tree in the backyard that had started to up-root and too close to the house.

On Thursday my property insurance rep will be out at the house. I don't know what he is going to see since all of the damaged crap has been sent off to the landfill. There is still one dumpster in the driveway but has mostly construction debris in it. I he said he wanted to go over the list of junk (see previous post).

All in all its good to see that progress has been made even though its only been a week. I guess the contractor says everything will be back to normal in 40 days. He and his team are going to start on Friday. We will just have to wait and see, but its nice to see less mud everywhere.

PS I'll post some more photo soon, maybe tomorrow.

Mother Nature You Bitch!

From Flooding Sept 2009

Things are crazy here so my postings maybe become less frequent over the next month or so. As I'm sure many of you outside of Atlanta have heard there has been sever flooding in the area. I have succumbed to be placed in the group of victims.

I went to bed Sunday night at 1AM it was raining but everything looked fine.
At 2AM I woke up to take a piss and looked out on to the back yard to find water had infiltrated the back yard and was at the patio. I immediately woke up Ryan and our roommate. We the sprang into defense mode securing the pets safety and rushing around like nut cases grabbing what ever we could. We saved a good bit of personally belongings, but we couldn't get everything. Even some of the things that we moved to a safe height only to find out it wasn't high enough.

By 3am we took the pets to the neighbors Erin and Earl. From there I went to check on our next door neighbors which I started to see moving around. They didn't need any help, but the probably should have taken us up on the offer the water was rising quickly. By 330AM it was at a foot. At 20 minutes later it was at 2ft and end up settling at 27 inches.

Ryan and I went up back up to the neighbors and talked and tried to calm down. We end up trying to get some sleep but we only layed there. By the time we got up at 7am and went back to the house the water had started to recede. We started the process of calling insurance companies and cleaning things up as best we could.

Mind you it was still sprinkling out it never really stopped. At about 9am more torrential downpours. The water strated to rise again for a second time, by noon time the water was at about 24" just shy of the first water mark. The rain kept coming this time it didn't receed until the next morning.

We've baorded the dog so he's safe and being fed, the cat is still with up at E and E's house. They have been great and we are going to have do something nice for them once we have some semblance of normalcy in our lives.

As it stands today Ryan and I are Extendstay, roommate has found his own living arrangements. Serves Pro has removed all the flooring and sucked up most of the water. We are waiting on them to come back with dehumidifiers and fans to air out the house. The Adjuster for the flood policy has come out and just left a matter of fact. Now we need to find contrators to bring us back to where we were before all of this happened.

I'll try to mark the progress that is made as the weeks and days go by.

Just In Case

I created a mirror blog over at Wordpress just in case something happens to this one. I don't think there will ever be a problem but one never knows. Here is the link if you choose to bookmark it http://whatothershavemissed.wordpress.com/ I do think that wordpress is a cleaner format and I may have to see if I can make the same changes here so that it is a true reflection of each other.

Go Dawgs

No matter what the calendar says its pretty much fall in America. School is back in session and that means college football. Growing up in New England the only real contender you had to cheer for out of all of the school that even had a chance for any type of bowl game was BC. Bleck! So I always rooted for PSU "Go Lions!!!"
But I now live in Georgia and I have to say that after seeing this photo of the QB Joe Cox I may have to switch my loyalty to UGA's Dawgs.

http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20090723/?pg=3&pm=1&u1=friend

First I have to say that Joe is looking pretty fit. He is also sporting a nice bulge here in the photo, which really stands out since he doesn't have any pads in his pants. You have to love Lycra. Thank you DuPont ;-) Oh and you can't forget those arms and his bright red hair. Yum. So I guess for this season the lions will not have my attention,
Sorry Joe.

They Ran Towards

No matter what your beliefs are in regards to the 9-11 attacks eight years ago today. Lets remember the victims and the public safety officers. The gallant Fire Fighters and Police of NYC ran towards the burning buildings. No matter if they were personally terrified or not they set that aside that fear to try and save strangers. Those men and women are no different from the public safety departments in our towns and cities across America. With that my heart goes out to the fallen and those that serve us today. Thank you.

I guess his blog and his tales were too true to life and almost landed him in some hot water with friends. We never know how our actions affect others and I hope no one was hurt in the end. I just want to wish him luck and I hope that he reads this. Peace so here are a few hot dishes to send him off...

Hubby Hubby

I friend of my posted a link to this article on facebook and I thought that it was worth a repost here. Hope you don't mind Carl :-) Now Chubby Hubby is not one of my favorite flavors from Ben & Jerry's, I'm more of a Cherry Garcia or Magic Brownies kind of guy. I hope that they release it nation wide I'd love to see it in the freezer section here in Georgia, you can smell the fire and brimstone now. I'm sure that this show of support will only draw the sights of the bible thumpers down on them. We all know how their boycott of Disney hurt that company's bottomline, LOL. Anyway grab a pint of your favorite flavor and enjoy. Ben & Jerry's you guys Rock!

Ice cream company fetes gay marriage

By Jerry Kronenberg | Tuesday, September 1, 2009 http://www.bostonherald.com

Ben & Jerry’s is temporarily renaming popular “Chubby Hubby” ice cream “Hubby Hubby” beginning today to celebrate the start of legalized gay marriage in its home state of Vermont.

“The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction, and something worth celebrating with peace, love - and plenty of ice cream,” Ben & Jerry’s CEO Walt Freese said in announcing the sugary switch.

Ben & Jerry’s, which has long backed liberal causes, plans to rebrand “Chubby Hubby” as “Hubby Hubby” for 30 days to show support for Vermont’s new law.

The move is mostly symbolic, as Burlington-based Ben & Jerry’s isn’t changing labels on “Chubby Hubby” pints sold in stores.

Spokesman Sean Greenwood said revising product labels takes 18 months, although he said Ben & Jerry’s hasn’t ruled out retailing “Hubby Hubby” in the future.

In the meantime, a wedding-themed Ben & Jerry’s truck will hand out free “Hubby Hubby” across Vermont today. Scheduled stops include the Vermont Capitol, where lawmakers passed a gay-marriage law that takes effect today.

Ben & Jerry’s six Vermont ice cream parlors also plan to sell special “Hubby Hubby” sundaes during September.

Gay-marriage backers see Ben & Jerry’s move as sweet sign of support.

“As we continue to fight for equality, it’s heartening to see businesses like Ben & Jerry’s demonstrate their support,” said Scott Gortikov of pro-gay-marriage organization MassEquality. “I look forward to the day when ‘Hubby Hubby’ is available in supermarkets in all 50 states.”

But the name change is giving gay-marriage opponents an ice cream headache. “It’s a bad idea, especially because I think they’re just doing it to rub it in that Vermont has legalized gay marriage,” said Brian Camenker of MassResistance.org.

Do not operate heavy machinery

I'm starting to feel a bit better though the Sudfed has been giving me an out of body experience. It's a good thing I didn't have to drive anywhere today, however I don't know how I got home yesterday. I ended up going home early from work my throat and head were killing me. This was only being aggravated by the drainage from my head. I know yuck. As soon as I was home I had nice bowl of hot soup and then just zonked out on the couch. Ryan came home about 6:30 had his dinner and I final got up and I made myself another bowl of soup, watched some TV. By 10pm I was ready for bed which is way earlier for me, I slept until 8:30 this morning. The combination of soup, sudfed and gargling with warm salt water I'm feeling 50% better. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be at a 100%. I wasn't the only one 4 other people called out yesterday so something is going around.
